John Panagakos: The Story

As creator of a unique financing solution called “The Separation Mortgages” I’ve spent years helping divorcing couples ease the stress of this often tumultuous process. For years, I witnessed couple after couple foundering through the divorce maze because the big banks lacked the flexibility and the products to help the struggling couple move forward with their new lives. So, I crafted Separation Mortgages as a means to fill the void, which was leading to hardship for people already enduring the pain of a break-up. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of clients and their lawyers find a solution and mortgages when they needed it most.

I have been a licensed Mortgage Agent with Safebridge Financial Group since 2010. My extensive network of more than 70 lenders gives me the resources to find you the best way forward. Sometimes it means the lowest rates possible, and sometimes it means a flexible financing plan that other lenders would never consider.

I am known for giving my cellphone number to clients and answering calls at any time of day or night, because I know the tension and urgency that often accompanies scenarios involving multiple lawyers, clients and divorce agreements. I don’t believe in bankers hours; I believe in access and being accessible for clients in need. I understand.

In fact, I sought out specialized training more than a decade ago that still sets me apart from other licensed mortgage brokers in Canada. I am one of the few, if not the only, collaboratively-trained mortgage brokers in the country. This means I’ve taken the same intensive training that lawyers who practice collaborative law receive. These are skills that allows me to inject myself directly into the process when collaborative lawyers are going back-and-forth with their clients, seeking solutions to mortgage financing challenges during division of assets. I can speak to their collaborative approach to negotiations, I emphasize with their challenges, and I know how to navigate the difficult emotional terrain of the moment.

My priority is to find the precise mortgage that fits the needs of my clients. I believe the clients should be empowered with choices that fit their lives. In fact, I am constantly furthering my training and professional education in order to better serve the rapidly changing demands and desires of the people for whom I work. I know the pain and emotional trauma that couples face. This is why I am driven to find solutions for them in their times of greatest vulnerability and frankly, during their greatest time of need for themselves and their children as they navigate their best path forward.

Let’s face it, separation and divorce are are a part of life and just one of the modern realities that are changing the mortgage finance business and underscoring the real need for a more modern approach and the higher level of specialization that we are proud to provide. JOHN PANAGAKOS - The “Separation Mortgages” Expert and founder of Separation Mortgages

John Panagakos is the go-to mortgage agent in Canada for “Separation Mortgages.” He created and pioneered this unique approach to securing mortgages for clients-in-need, more than a decade ago.

John has been a licensed Mortgage Agent with Safebridge Financial Group since 2010 and is highly regarded within the Family Law community as THE expert in Separation Mortgages.

To enhance his understanding and skills in this area, John took the initiative to enroll in the Collaborative Law training program (normally utilized by family law practitioners), which gives him unique insight and value when he’s called upon by lawyers to assist their clients seeking mortgages in the midst of separation and divorce.

A strong believer in education, John graduated George Brown College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Business. He furthered his knowledge at Ryerson University in Finance and Marketing in 2003, while launching his pursuit of business and finance excellence at Humber College Business Management School, Business/Commerce.

John is a father of two children and looks back fondly on his early years as a personal banker at RBC, where he honed his personal communications skills. This is a pillar of John’s commitment to his clients - always willing to give out his cell number and take a call to support clients who have urgent needs and require immediate answers. It’s a personal touch in which he takes pride.

Education & Personal Passions

As a strong believer in education, I obtained my Bachelor of business from George Brown college, having also attended Ryerson University for Finance and Marketing. And, I pursued more excellence in education at Humber College Business Management School/Business Commerce. I also believe communication skills are extremely important when it comes to listening to clients and getting to understand their priorities. They also allow me to enhance my network of financing institutions. I’ve written a book about mortgages, am an author with Lexis Nexis, and I’m featured speaker at conferences and educational events.

Not one to let his communication skills wane, John is also an author with Lexis Nexis. He’s not only been published, he’s become a successful speaker and live-presenter. Charity is an important part of my work-life vision. I encourage everyone to select causes that speak to their hearts. This is why I actively support Make A Wish and other noble charitable organizations including, most recently, FEAT a children’s charity operating to providing critical educational supplies to children in need.
